Spas and hot tubs need a GFI, but does a Dry Sauna? This one is 25a 240v. Could not find it in the NEC.

Off the top of my head I say yes, as normal operation involves jumping into the pool afterward. [Linked Image] You know barefoot and wet with sweat, and operating the controls, etc.

As for the code on that, I don't really know.......... Can't find anything either. But for a steam one you do, per manufactures instructions at least.

According to the search engine in my electronic 2002 handbook, the word "sauna" does not exist in the NEC. If this sauna does not incorporate a pool or spa I say no.

I would think if it were a steam sauna you might need a GFI, but a dry sauna probably not.

I went ahead and installed a GFI just to be on the safe side.

Dry sauna do not require a GFCI but do require a disconnect or a lockout on the panel breaker if not in sight
