I think I am going to sit on my $90 check until I can sort this one out.

I guess that is why they have the box "why are you not renewing your membership".

I often wonder where all that money goes. It sure doesn't cost them $15 a copy for the magazine.

It goes to support two representatives on each Code Making Panel, to pay for representatives to go to the various chapter meetings, developing training materials, pay for the office staff's salaries, pay for the international headquarters offices, and the list goes on. If you are not involved in the IAEI and taking advantage of their functions, you are right . . . the magazine is not worth the price. On the other hand, if you look at the good they do for safety, the betterment of the Code, and training they do, it is well worth the price.

They tout themselves as the keystone of the electrical industry and I believe they are right. A man is a fool to believe he can be perfect. Everyone needs a well trained inspector to look over his work and literally save lives.

Sorry, I got a little carried away but I feel strongly about this subject. [Linked Image]

Your comment is well said. For anyone who does not go to local chapter meetings, or the section meetings, it is hard to see the value of the membership.

Remember the $90 membership, is a membership fee, not a fee for the book.
Your membership to the IAEI validates what they are doing, it gives the IAEI 'clout' to shape our industry, and it helps the industry as a whole to provide all of us with a better understanding of the industry.

My town is still on the '96 NEC. The neighboring towns are '99 and '02.

I'm sure some "progressive community" will adopt the '95, and make me spend the $$$ again [Linked Image]

Ryan or others who might have seen an 05 NEC by now - I'm hoping you can help me with a question on AFCIs. I realize there was a floor vote in Utah to override the panel decision and require AFCIs for all "living area" circuits. Did that action stay in effect and make it into the code? I would sure appreciate knowing - I have a seminar on these things scheduled for Tuesday morning the 21st.

Thanks

Oops - never mind. I was able to find the answer in one of the other links posted by Joe Tedesco. Looks like the Standards Council re-affirmed the CMP and did not uphold the floor vote. AFCIs still just for bedroom circuits.

I don't mind sending them $90 a year if they are really helping the industry. I just don't want to see those guys buying yachts

We will adopt it January 1 of 2006, but I start teaching on it next month.
