Right now without the lawsuit any place that uses the NEC has a free copy for you to look at and it is available at local library's.
Think of the general laws for your area, you can access them for free but you will not be given a free set of law books.
SolarPowered what private company are you paying through the nose to. The NFPA is an organization that is funded by the sale of code books and the like.
The code comes out every 3 years, that is about 780 workdays. If the book cost $70.00 that is $0.09 per work day for a tool of the well paying trade we have chosen.

As for multiple computers and users, apparently, although I can't find it, there is a "Network License" for that purpose. (Its reffered to in the license aggreement)Who knows how much that will run you?

A Code that is developed by a lot of people and administered by and organization can not continue to be revised to keep up with industry without the income to do the revising and supporting the staff. The only way it could work is to allow the government to do the work instead of using a consensus process. HMMMM . . . good idea.

Does the license agreement state "single user" or "single computer". A "single user" license is just that, a single user. If you have 2 computers for your own use than you are still the only (single) user of the program even though it resides on both of your PCs.

Well, if you want to follow the letter of the law or, more technically, the end user license agreement (which may or may not have the force of law), simply do the install that requires the CD to be present. Without the CD, the program is not "installed" and you could shuffle your CD between several computers.

As far as I am concerned, if there is only one "user" who cares how many copies are installed on different computers. I have my handbook installed on a couple computers but there is only one in use at any given time and I sleep just fine. If you own a company with 5 employees using the software, you should have 5 licensed copies. I doubt any reasonable person would dissagree.

Well, while I support the NFPA (I am a FF, after all ), couldn't a way around the "single machine" license be to install the CD version into the "shared files" folder on the "host" computer for your Palm/PPC? If it's like mine, it should automatically upload to your mobile device with Activesync- I'd make sure to have a BIG memory device installed. As long as you're not re-distributing it, and it's for your own use only...
