Hoow do you guys cut in an old-work box (sorry for the DIYer term) with wood panelling? I know a matte knife isn't a good idea, as evidenced by a scar my father has from cutting one into a wall for our A/C. So fess up, how do you guys do it?

Thanks,
Ian A.

If it is wood paneling, a drywall saw works ok, a finer tooth saw works better.

Mark out the four corners. Drill inside and then use a saw... even a hacksaw blade will work.
