Copper in a pool? That must be a northern thing. I have never seen anything but PVC in Fla or Md. I was told copper would end up in the water and turn your hair green. What temp does your water usually run? That may be the secret. We won't even stick a toe in the water until it is 30c.

I was told last week a major copper mine just shut down and whole sale copper jumped $1.00 a pound. This is a very sore subject for us as I am on a very large job that was bid over two years ago. We are just now starting to order and install hundreds of thousands of feet of large feeders. For some strange reason, we don't have a bulk buy price locked in.

The company my wife works for is in a real bind. They sold a bunch of homes, pre-construction, 2 years ago. They have been having "eagle problems" for two years and now they have to build these houses at the 2004 price, using 2006 materials. This is definately going to be a loss leader.

My supply house quoted me a price of $69/100' for #8 AWG.
The Big Orange Box had 500' for $134.
While I was there, another spark was buying cases of #12... and ALL of the blue, orange, red, and green was GONE. there was maybe 3 1/2 cases of white and 4 cases (mixed open and closed) of black.
It seems like everybody's stocking up where they can before the prices go up more.

Ya, copper in a pool is not normal, I am just doing it in copper as it is not that far a run and that is what is already stubbed out of the heater.. I have had a few problems with PVC fittings cracking and coming apart as is... I usually like the pool between 87*F and 92*F, and sometimes even warmer if its a cool night or its rainy, I like my 20,000 gallon "hot tub".. As for what I saw price wise last night for copper pipe: 1/2"x 12'.. $19 3/4" & 1" x 12'..$31 1 1/4" x 12'..$43 1 1/2" x 12'... $53 2" x 12'.. $70 Scrap copper I heard today was $2 and change a pound around here, I guess its time I do something with that pile of scrap 500 & 750 MCM bare copper A.D

I heard recently that our local utility is having a problem in a remote area with power outages. They go to check it out and find that there is a transformer pole cut down and the transformer windings are all missing.

At least pennies have more than doubled in value: A pre 1982 US cent is composed of 95% copper. Its mass is 3.1 grams, or 0.00683433013 in pounds. As of today, the price of copper is $3.7852 per pound, putting its value at 2.587 cents, not including the zinc content. Today's pennies, which are 97.6% zinc cost 1.4 cents to make http://www.fark.com/archives/index.2006-04-30.html the link is about 1/5th of the way down, but no longer active. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_(U.S._coin) [This message has been edited by PEdoubleNIZZLE (edited 05-30-2006).]

I'd heard the recent spike was from a strike at a Mexican copper mine. Does anyone have any more detailed information on this? I found this article on Google News, seems to confirm, and give MORE bad news that that they started striking at a 2nd mexican copper mine, too: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000086&sid=amSaP3DDKH84&refer=latin_america If we're seeing a large increase from the "Katrina Factor" coupled with production shortages, that gives a little hope that the spikes are only temporary, right?
