Here are some of the sites,
http://www.inspect-ny.com/aluminum/awtwist.htm
http://www.inspect-ny.com/aluminum/awtwist2.htm
http://tooling.tycoelectronics.com/wiring_dangers.stm

What i see is, the connector is UL approved,
but what would 12 people reading the above reports think.

The word "approved" seems to be misused quite a lot. "Approved" is defiend in Article 100 as "acceptable to the AHJ". I think what we are talking about here is listing. UL lists Ideal's wirenuts are listed, as Don stated.

The idea that the special crimping tool and connectors comes from the Consumer Product Safety Comission, in a document that can be found here: http://www.inspect-ny.com/aluminum/awrepair.htm#rcmd

For what it's worth, I have confidently used Ideal 65s.
And BTW,
I don't want to cause a fire anymore than anyone else does.

As a third year apprentice in the state of Mass I have worked for 2 people both master electricians. Each time we have come accross this type of thing both of them have said we will not touch it. If we do thier license now goes on that house and they do not want that. From only a third year apprentice WALK AWAY and DONT LOOK BACK !!!!!!

Before the alloy was changed, devices were marked Cu/AL. The new ones are marked Co/Alr.

See NEC 406.2(C).
