I have to agree with what I read above with Dodge having bad transmissions.. I have put a few in our Dakota, (few meaning 6!!), but my Ram has been really good.. The 2500 and 3500 series use something a LOT heavier than the 1500's obviously and from a friend of mine thjat owns a '97 2500 diesel, he hasn't touched his tranny yet, and he tows a car trailer all the time..

GM does not make the 350's in the trucks anymore but my 98 chevy 350 "R" motor does well. In a step van with around 10K lbs it gets between 12-14 mpg driving at full throttle. It's ok on power. Has a 14x6.5x6.5 box you can stand up in. Plus you can styand in the cab or streach your legs out on the dash.
Frank: I don't know anything about the Ford spark plug problem but have a few tips. For AL cylinder heads never take the spark plugs out hot. The plugs are steel, expand at a different rate then the AL and do not come out well when warm causing dammage to threads. Sometimes the threads are dammaged but the plug will still go in and is blown out latter. Allways put an anti sieze compound on the spark plugs with AL heads to help them come out good next time. AL heads can be repaired with thread inserts sometimes without major work.

I just bought a new van, a 2006 Ford E250, V8, 5.4 liter. It is horrible on gas mileage, about 10-12 city and 15-20 highway. It definitely serves its purpose as far as getting around and getting jobs done, but damn it's expensive to keep it going what with insurance and payments and all. Good thing I have a good job and make a good income to afford it.

I have a 250superduty. although apples to oranges maybe, i love the diesels. mine is a heavy truck , like everyone elses. ex cab long box. not real sure wha tit weighs with top and all. six speed man. i consistantly average 18-19 mpg btween fill ups. 198k on her and runnin strong. some day i may even feel like i got my moneys worth out of her buy the diesel
I have worked as an apprentice and on to a journeyman in a general construction company. 90% of what I do is residential. I have an associats degree in electrical technology. I have started my own buisness this year and am with out the help of other electricians. this is why i find this site so helpful.

We are also looking for a vehicle. Ideally a crew cab with a good utility body with walk in. Any suggestions on the motor or utility body?
