okay im working on this project at work. the guy im working with suggested i run soj in flex in a wall. The run is about five feet long to a gutter on the other side of the wall .This guy is older than me but i think this is a violation correct ?

If you mean sjo, then I do not believe it is allowed as a permanent wiring method, even if you put it in flex conduit. If it is soj cable then please consult with someone who knows what that might possibly be.
