If fuel prices are rising, why not just up the total price you charge for a job instead of adding surcharges here and there? I would think it's normal that prices rise as the cost of doing business goes up.

We do if it is 'contract work', Time and Matrial work is another issue all together.

Itemized on the bill will be charges for permits, rentals if applicable, a truck charge and a mileage charge along with stock and time.

All of these items are listed on the rate sheet the customer gets before we work for them. No secrets or surprises.

We have always had a mileage charge and it adjusts accordingly.

We are not a charity, if gas costs more the customer has to pay more.

Nothing underhanded just how life is.
