Got a troubleshooting call today: "My Ground Fault Outlet started beeping, then it tripped after a little puff of smoke came out..." Beeping?!?!?! A standard Leviton 6599I 15A 125V with 20A feedthru... Not even the new LED trip indicator light... Beeping?!?!?!? I dissected the Receptacle after the report of smoke, to find no heat damage but... I found some cobwebs and two "meal worm" carcasses... one crispy fried... Do "meal worms" beep before they die? Beeping?!?!?!

Hello from Colorado!!!!!!
You know that all electrical devices have a certain amount of smoke built into them, and when all the smoke escapes it is time to replace it!!!!! ha,ha,ha!!!

'66, my wife says that if you have meal worms in your flour and accidentally throw them in a hot pan, they make a small screeching sound as they fry!!

Maybe your customer was trying to describe an arcing sound, or even the buzzing of a magnetic trip on the verge of operating??? Yeah, I know we'd never think that either of those sounds could remotely be described as "beeping," but I've found plenty of people who use descriptive words like that in bizarre ways!

Yes!! I have some mealworms left from fishing, just threw a couple in a hot pan. More like the squeak a lobster makes when thrown in boiling water. Got to go clean it up before my wife catches me

Cindy Actually it no worse than drowning worms for fishing. Heck I catch flies all the time for fishing, they just dont wanna stay on the hook.

electure, You going Ice Fishing out there? It's starting to get pretty cool around here lately. A local radio station played an April fools day prank last year I think, where they told everyone to unplug their Telephones and cover the Jacks because the Telco was going to be cleaning out their lines and you didn't want the dust coming out. They had people calling in from cell phones asking things like "is the bird going to be OK in that room?" Good Stuff !! Bill
