Heck, with $3 gas....I've been re-working this idea myself.

A lot, of course, depends upon the exact nature of your work- and where you do it!

I suppose a smaller vehicle (assuming it has some towing capacity) would be adequate for holding most of your general-use tools. It would certainly zip to the parts house both quicker, and more economically, than a big truck. You can even put a ladder or a few sticks of pipe on the roof.

This brings us to the trailer itself. I could probably make one of those $200 DIY trailer frames work- 12" wheels, attach a job box, add parts bins, make a ladder/ pipe rack.....and presto!
My concern is, simply put, security. Wouldn't want just anyone to be able to simply tow it off, would you? At a minimum, I would want to use jackstands to support/level it (making a handy work platform in the process)- and remove the wheels, storing them in the job box!

DeWalt is marketing a promising security system for such applications. It is pricey, and I am not sure how much good it will do- but it is something to consider.
