The thing you have to remember is a dimmer on anything but bypass mode (full on) will produce more heat at full bright than when dimmed. The silicon junction drops about .7 v at the applied current when it is on. When it is off there is no heat. If you are running at a 30% duty cycle it is cooler than at 100% duty cycle, right before the full on switch makes.
