The building code actually requires that the trades' (plumbing, electrical, mechanical) rough inspections shall be done prior to the framing inspection. Seems the plumbers and tin bangers tend to cut out too much wood for their pipes and ducts electricians..???? never!). Although, even electricians will sometimes drill a hole in a rafter or joist closer than 2 inches to the edge (a NO, NO in the building code).

"You have reached the City of (many in So CA) automated inspection request line. Please enter you permit number followed by the pound key".

This is how most of our inspection requests are handled. Given the permit number, anyone with a telephone could call in. I could have you call in for my next inspection.

Another difference in the way it's done here: Many ECs will not touch a resi job until the plumber's done anyway. Torch Scorch and chainsaws don't do much good for Romex.

This call and crunch the electrician with "You've got to be ready" trick is just another one from some GC/Superintendent 101 class.

Cornel Hogan walks in on meet with Clink, and Hocksteter. - Hogans Heros - My favorite show.

"Who is thees Man, and vhat is heee doing heere?" (snear)

Say it everytime I see a plumber on any job, often they finish after I'm well away.

Where we are wiring the builder calls in ALL inspectors, to include all rough-in, pre-power, and final's.
But in-turn they pay all reinspection fees:-)

Mainly because a house will not be ready and they will go "Oh uhh, building final tommorow, I know it's 4pm today and you normally leave at 5pm, but I don't care need building final tommorow".

All around the DC area (maybe a third of the jurasdictions), if you have the permit number you can call in an inspection via the "please enter permit number and press the pound key" method that it seems is common in rapidly growing areas. Becasue we have to post permits on the jobsite...

I assume that resi has it worse than we do becasue for every warehouse we put in it seems like they put in about three thousand houses.
