OK,
So I went and saw my ex-Boss yesterday and tried to convey the predicament that this young fella is in.
What an absolute waste of my time, petrol and breath.
I tried to get the Log-Book back off of the company, I may get that.
As far as a reference goes, he can get one, but it won't be that nice.
I rang the apprentice last night and told him of the news.
Although neither of us were surprised at the outcome, I would have at least thought that the Boss would have been a bit more personable towards me, as I have always shown him loyalty over the time that I worked there.
I was after all his right hand man for a time and trained a good part of his current staff.
But Oh No, we have to put the daggers in for a start.
Upshot of this all is, I'll write the darned Reference, if it's that much of a problem.
The guy is only asking for a piece of paper that to a certain extent, the rest of his life could depend upon.
Not to sound silly here,
But, to what degree should a falling out with an employer have, after you've done your time?.
Sure, theft as a servant and the like aside.

Sorry to hear that Trumpy. It seems to be the way of people everywhere. I worked for a company once for two years ( didn't make any long term promises when I hired in , the pay was too low ), worked 12 and 14 hr. days and had to come in at night when called. Didn't miss a day, didn't even take vacation. Gave 2 weeks notice and trained my replacement. I asked for a reference for my employment file. They gave me a two line reference that said basicly that I hadn't killed anyone and could turn a screw in the right direction. Word to the wise, try and get the reference while your still on the job because after you leave most people think they owe you nothing. No even a "Good Day".
