I have found the Sq D QO200TR to be a useful disconnect. It is rather compact, rated for 60 amps, and you can replace the disconnect switch inside with a QO breaker if you wish. Cost near $12, also avail in plastic. Originally intended for air conditioner use.

I guess that is another place it could fall under too, as it is an appliance as well.
