I found this on a SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) web site. Besides cars they set standards for the arospace industry.

SAE AE8-B1 Protective Devices Subcommittee takes on Arc Fault Circuit Breaker Specification role

http://www.sae.org/standardsdev/news/ae8b1role.htm

"Eaton Corp. has received a contract from two federal agencies for the development of electrical wiring protection systems for both commercial and military aircraft. The $1 million contract from the FAA and U.S. Navy calls for Eaton to adapt the company's proprietary arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) technology"

They also had a bit on using ark fault breakers on cars with a new 42v system.
