Here is the response I got from my nasty E-mail.

Dear Mr. Jackson:

I/we are well aware of your concerns, which are shared by many of your
colleagues (including our own electrical engineers), and we are working
very hard to remedy them.

A revised version of the CD, allowing two downloads to computer hard
drives (and providing via tech support for additionjal downloads if you
change computers) and restoring the search function to its previous
utility.

This involves a fair amount of technical and legal analysis, as I'm sure
you can imagine, but we are aiming for an April 1 instock of a
satisfactory version of the NEC Handbook on CD, and a retrofitted NEC
within days after that, at which time I'm sure we will offer a trade-in
policy for you to return the CD you have and get a version that you'll
find more agreeable.

I'm sorry I can't predict exactly what day, procedure, or final
configuration of the CD will apply, but I am confident you will be
happier with the new edition, and I do apologize for the inconvenience
the first version has caused you.

Best regards,
