The US military with Motorola are upgrading their comunication systems to the same frequencys as garage door openers between now and 2008. It may affect you if your near a base. Some say the range is 7 miles while others say 50 miles.

Surely there would be some sort of a narrow-band notch filter that could be fitted to the Opener Reciever units, to prevent this sort of thing happening.
Oddly enough, we had the same problem here with our Fire station Pager transmitter when it was first installed, it used to open all the garage doors on the block.
We had a local technician make up a heap of filters for the units and that seemed to cure things.
What a lot of people don't understand, is the fact that it isn't the transmitting equipment that is faulty, it's the in-ability of the reciever circuitry to filter out the unwanted signal.
This happens a lot when appliances are built to a (usually as low as possible) price.

A while back, in AZ, F-15 ground proximity radar was energizing the perimeter alarm system at a state prison. Corrected by changing frequency of alarms. BTW, the GPR frequency was secret!

Apparently the military is using the same frequency as the door openers so no amount of filtering is going to help. Only thing to do is change the frequency of the transmitter and receiver for the opener. This is not an easy thing and they will probably have to be replaced and I don't even think there is anything available.
