Customer has 200amp OH service w/ 2 100amp meters(double gang meter) feeding 2 100amp panels w/100amp main breakers.Customer wants one panel to be up graded to a 200amp.So the end result would be a 200amp & 100amp panel. I would think I would have to upgrade to a 2 gang 200amp meter box.The house has gas heat and appliances. The load calculation on the house isnt changing by a large amount. Just needs more breaker space for attic renovation. That said ... the 200amp OH service should be ok.. any input is greatly appreciated..ToHo

You would have to upgrade to the two 200 amp meter sockets. Sounds like a lot of work if the loads aren't changing. How about installing a 30 circuit 100 amp main breaker panel and upgrading the grounding? SQD makes one and I believe Cutler Hammer does to. Ron

customer wants the 200amp panel for future use if necessary. I don't believe The utility Co. rates the residential service as a continuous load?(only commercial) I'm not sure at what point the utility Co. would want me to upgrade the 200amp OH service. ToHo

You may want to consider the Milbank number U2601-XL. It's a 2-gang horozontal one 100 amp and one 200 amp. Now you can have a 200 amp main 40 ckt on one side and a 100 amp 30 ckt on the other. They're mostly used where there's one larger sq ft home next to a smaller apt/in law.

Hey Wirenutt, 35 years in the business and thats the first time I've heard Milbank had such a meter socket. Very interesting. Will have to see if WE energies approval is on that one for future use. Education never comes to an end. Ron
