I performed an after fire inspection for an insurance co. several years ago and here are a few things I found:
Four HVAC units w/nameplate rating of 28.6 amps fed w/#10 & 40A. CB.
EMT stubbed up into ceiling cavity from sws. & recpts. Fed w/romex!
H2O 33.7 FLA wired w/ #10 & 40A. CB
Recessed fluorescents connected w/3/8” flex and #16 stranded wire. (I seem to recall that the wire was automotive hook-up wire).
This was a medical clinic in AL and the AHJ was the Father-in-Law of the EC.
Following this, my co was engaged to survey all sites where the ins. co. had the coverage. What a nightmare! Cancelled policies, fines, and lots of work for reputable EC's.
