Electure, 'I know what' you don't want to go to.... The political issue of union vs. non-union. I can respect that in your position as moderator. But, it is no longer about that! Which ever side anyone is on, this law is being mis-managed by the DAS, and it needs to be talked about, openly. There is a serious crisis coming, and that is something, I feel we can all agree on.

An analogy here might be nice,like: It's as if your High School Princable came up to you today, and said you needed to take this test, or you can't go to College, after you finished College, and moved on. And your boss in your current career said, 'Well, I have to let you go, although you've been doing this job for 20 years, a High School Diploma if required for employment.'

Why wouldn't someone with 20 yrs experience feel confident enough to take a "journeyman's" test that requires but 4 yrs experience??

Is it a moral/ethical/justice "protest"? I think not.
Is it the $175 fee? C'mon, there are lots of guys that spend that much on a tool, or beer, or a new toy.
"I didn't know about it"? This law didn't just pop up out of nowhere, it's been on the table, back and forth in its various forms, since 1999. The seatbelt law didn't require the State to send out flyers of explanation to each and every registered driver, but required action on the part of all drivers.

No, the sad truth is, I think, that the Trade here in CA is riddled with 6 month "journeymen", 2 yr "foremen" and 10, 15, & 20 yr people that never learned a thing after their first couple of years.

Although I agree that all people doing electrical work should be subject to Certification, and the DAS shouldn't mandate any type of wage requirement, there is a definite need for some housecleaning in the Trade.

So, let's hear a valid reason for an electrician not taking this test.

I also think that anyone inspecting electrical work should be required to take a proficiency test like this one. Therein lies a major problem as well. Crappy work done by crappy "electricians", inspected by crappy "inspectors" = The current state of affairs in many situations.

I think you are right on a lot of that, I guess we all find out in two months.

Ther are no valid reasons not to take it, in fact I encourage all to do so. My gripe is the way it's happening, or rightly, not happening.
