I have only flown in a small 2 seater a few times. The last time I went up, all I could think was, "If my friend [the pilot] dies right now, I'm done." [Linked Image]

I went up with an instructor in a little Cessna 150 some years back and had a go at flying it. It was after I just happened to pick up a book about getting a private license at a book store in Florida.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and thought I might like to get a license one day, but have never followed through on it.

Hi Nick K,
I have a Commercial Rotary Wing Licence over here in New Zealand.
Heli-ski-ing is a BIG thing here!, in the Winter.
The Japanese tourists love it, you'd want to for the amount of money it costs!.
Nick, I would never use a chopper for work, but I have done 1000's of hours on Search And Rescue missions, the Av Gas paid for by the NZ Police.
I fly for free, when I do SAR work (unpaid).

My boss owns a plane and I have flown with him many times. I worked for 6 months in Marathon, Florida and would fly back with him when he came down to check up on the job. I've made a few other business trips with him as well.

Just wondering Nick, what is involved with getting a private pilot's license?

Thanks for all the responces

To get a Private pilot you have to sit a written exam given by th FAA after studying all about it. You also need to fly with or under the supervision of an instructor for about 40 - 60 hrs and then pass an exam given by the FAA. Lots of fun, I realy enjoyed it and would encourage anyobe to do it. It kind of get adicting. Costs around $100 to $110 / hr so it is not real cheap but like I always say you can only spend it once.

How much does AV fuel cost in NZ. In the states its about $2.50 to $3.00 per gallaon I grew up in Tasmania.

Nick
