Speaking of contraptions, I worked for this old guy once that took a 1" galvy plumbing tee, filed the threads out of the horizontal ends, screwed a 18" piece into the vertical hole, and used that to bend tight bends on the bigger wires (3/0+) for terminations into lugs and such.
