I am the ultimate wire abuser. I have a CAT5 with 2 LANs on it and another one with 2 phone lines and a LAN.
I also have a 4' IDE cable that is "T" connected to the disk ribbon for the externally mounted CDR drive. It works ... sue me.

Cat5e for phone? Maybe you're just ahead of the voice over IP crowd...

Here's my space. I like my text books handy. Computer- have'nt a clue what's in the box- had it built by Detroit Robert who knows about such stuff, he reckons it to be "adequate". Running MS XP. A3 Epson color inkjet printer for plans and drawings etc. Canon A4 scanner. 'Skype' installed for free phone calls to Blighty. Logitech ball-less laser mouse [ recommended- no cleaning cruddy rubber balls and no need for a mat, though my wife uses one for wrist support ] , speakers and headset. Eagle eyes will note the shuko-brit adaptors- don't care - I know what I like! Phillips Fax for secure contact with my UK bank. Siemens Cordless digital phone, range 300 feet for ordering tea whilst out in the shop. Some nice pieces of wild cherry for a coffee table acclimatising in the room. I share the room with a second fridger [ full of panaché, juice and coke], our chest freezer and our tumble drier. Plenty of light- I made the window. Both chairs found in dumpsters- it's amazing what some folks put out in the trash! Desk was a gift from a friend- not sure I like it yet, may go back to my old desk.

Alan,
Judging by your shelving solution in the corner there, I take it that France doesn't have things like earth-quakes. [Linked Image]
Everything is stored on the floor here in NZ, that way it can't fall any further. [Linked Image]

...everything stored on the floor....

LOL! [Linked Image] Reminded me of my kids' bedrooms in the UK in a previous nightmare. Except in their case, it was to do with utter bone-idleness. Denise got to the point where she refused to enter their "filthy, rubbish-dump bedrooms", even to deliver their laundry, for fear of falling over something [or someone] disgusting and not being able to get up again! I must admit I have to bite my tongue sometimes on UK visits, remembering how the little buggers spent 20 or more years systematically wrecking our home, when on visits to their own now immaculate houses I get told to "wipe my feet", "take them boots off" or "go smoke out in the garden"!

As to 'quakes proper, France has seismic activity but it's centred southeastward in the the Alps in the Marseilles/Geneva/Lyon triangle. BTW, That's good 'ol Brit shelving from B&Q, so it "can't fall off the wall, there's nothing to stop it!"

Isn't amazing how smart the parents become, as the kids went from age 16 to 26?

This- without any clean-up for this pic- is what the cord clutter under my desk looks like.

Hmm, it depends on what computer I'm using. If I'm on the living room PC, I'm at a desk. If I'm on my bedroom iMac, I'm on my top bunk eyeing my dresser. My iBook? I could be anywhere, from my parents' bedroom to my neighbor's back yard. I'm planning a big desk that I'm going to build for my bedroom. My "print manager" is my cat Mikey. He's always on a sleep break, though. [Linked Image]

I often post from work, but I can't take pictures there, classified information and all, photos are frowned upon [Linked Image]

Here's my home desk, monster everything- dual monitors with 21" CRT & 19" LCD (GREAT for cad, btw, highly recommend!), TV, full tower case running a P4-3200MHz with (used to be watercooled, but switched to a heatpipe when I got the P4), cable modem, wifi WAP/router, photo printer and of course all my R/C planes!
