per sq. ft bid is a start. what i always get hung up on is the lighting, i'll usually ask for a lighting layout, even refer to a good lighting shop that will do the work for the sale of the lighting package ( this works great if you can bring it together) then a per stop $ is for real. changes suck, let's face it, indecision should not be at our expense right? and people tend to jab you with the T&M---your here, it's cheap line. well it's aggravation, so i contract extra's @ T&M WITH an added per stop premium

Oh yeah, Steve (sparky) tried to warn me...

Others have told me to be a tad greedy, yet still competitive. Imagine my suprise when 4 sparky's show up @ the genny store jawbonnin' rates an' i'm the low boy in town !
I should heed my own advice....

Can someone help me im a residential contractor im just starting my buisness .

A simple method:
1 Materials 225.00
2 Labor 8 hours @ 20.00 160.00
3 permit 70.00
4 Man hour overhead 8 hr@10.00 80.00
break even point 535.00
add profit 20% 107.00
Selling price 642.00
The overhead is adjustable to how many workers you have and other factors govening the job, ie distance to the job site, etc.
