i've also heard if a flourescent lamp is held outside of a microwave oven and it lights up your microwave is leaking and should be thrown out.

To Attic Rat: If I am not mistaken, the ends of the lamps are usually metal. Placing a metal object in most microwave ovens is a good way to kill the oven dead.

Thanks Mac. I was about to raise that point. I've also seen websites of people who put CDs into microwave ovens and burn the metal coating off them -- makes for spectacular fireworks.

But the usual disclaimer here goes: don't try this at home. [Linked Image]

Relax guys, rizer says to hold the tube OUTSIDE the microwave oven to see if the door seals leak. True. Fluorescent tubes will glow in the presence of a strong electromagnetic field.

But if the door seals leak badly enough to allow a fluorescent tube to light, chances are you are already sterile and growing extra limbs... [Linked Image]
