you can buy m.i. cable in a fire alarm rated configuration 18/2/, 18/2 shielded etc.

I just checked my favorite MI cable manufacturer and you are correct, sorry for the misleading info.

Saw one cable called firewire? (No, not the Ethernet stuff) - this had a red outer insulating sheath, and carried a fire rating. My buddy used it when hard-wiring the rate-of-rise detector in my basement.

When I get home, I'll try and find some scraps, and I'll get product info up ASAP.

I am doing a job now that is spec. MI cable from the generator to the fire pump. It's a 200ft run and the MI cable will leave the building through a conduit nipple filled with fire rated caulking and be direct buried to the gen. pad where it enters the generator. The job is speced like this but. I am looking for different options on doing this to present to the owner.
