I am not sure how to size feeders to a 250hp motor @480 v. I have been using a slide chart but it only goes to 200hp.I think it gives me the sizes from the load side of the starter and not the line in .

Look at Article 430, and the examples in the back of the codebook. This is pretty standard stuff. Slides are ok, but you really should know this article to do this properly.
