Just make a cable with regular male plugs on both ends, then plug the generator into any socket. I assume you have one in the garage, or you should have an outside plug somewhere. Just make sure you turn off the main breaker on your electrical box, or you will have a fireworks display when the hydro comes back on.

That's why you turn off the main breaker, but I don't actually know about the legality of it. You definitly woudln't connect a large permanent generator this way, but if you just want to hook up a small one during a blackout, it does work.

Well, the consensus of the forum seems to be, "Don't do it." So, all I'll say is, I've seen it done, it worked, there was no resulting fire, and nobody was electrocuted. YMMV.
