Have a friend with a rental with 100 amp box and central air 2 ton. Tenant complains of a poping nosie when turning on a additional 110volt window AC.
Know this may overload box but should it not just trip breaker.
thanks

It sounds like something that should be checked out right away.

I have a friend who posed this same question to me. My response was..."It could be caused by a number of things...none of them good". In this particular case, it turned out to be a bad neutral buss connection, but it could have been far worse. I'll second Bill; it needs a good look-see...PRONTO.

Breaker boxes ought not to ever go snap, crackle or pop...
