I used to think all the insulation had to be 600v also.

Russ

(1) 600 Volts, Nominal, or Less. Where circuit conductors are rated 600 volts nominal or less, both ac and dc circuits shall be permitted to occupy the same equipment wiring enclosure, cable, or raceway. All conductors shall have an insulation rating equal to at least the maximum circuit voltage applied to any conductor within the enclosure, cable, or raceway.

So, by the '99 NEC this installation was not permissible, but the '02 now permits this?

CT,

The 1999 NEC 725-54(a)(1) Exception No. 2(b)(2)
permitted this, but the reference to 725-21 was not much help to me for understanding the intent.

The NEC 2002 725.54(D)(2)(b) says the same, but 725.52(A) Exception No. 2 tells to eliminate the Class 2 and Class 3 markings.

I, for one, question the mutilation of Factory and/or NRTL labels by anyone, let alone someone doing the field installation.

For those that can, go to www.ul.com and look under ' regulators ' and then find ' Field Modification '.
