I need some help for an extra credit paper I am writting, and of course I waited until the last minute so I do not have time to research this one.

Does anyone know when the NEC started requiring a supplemental grounding electrode for a metal underground water pipe, or has it always been that way?

Thanks,

IAEI Soares' Book on Grounding is a good reference.
