Well, first off i'm new here and I'm interested in getting into the electrical field. I wanna be an electrician for commercial type things not to interested in the whole industrial. But, i don't know how to go about it. I was told by someone i have to have a journeymans card and train under a master electrician for 5 yrs but, i don't know how to go about doing that or if this is true... if you guy's could shine some guiding light in my path i'd really appreciate it ...

The only way I know of is to hire on as an apprentice, keep your eyes open, work hard, and learn all you can.

If you can afford to, take a course, the kind where you get about 50% hands on (shop time), at a trade school or community college first.

It really helps if you have a natural interest in electrical equipment and systems.

ChrisD,

Welcome to ECN and to the trade!

Grab the classified section of your newspaper, look under the "E" section, and start calling a few ECs (Electrical Contractors).

Good luck.
