ROGER BELSKI
1946 - 2015 | Obituary

WAUKEGAN - Roger Belski, 68, passed away quickly but unexpectedly in his home on Thursday, June 4, 2015. Born June 29, 1946 in Chicago, Roger grew up in North Chicago with parents Louis and Jean (Szostak) Belski and brothers Tom (Jeanette) and Jeff (Paula) Belski. He graduated from North Chicago High School Class of '64 where he distinguished himself as being exceptionally mechanically inclined. Roger served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 and upon his return from the service, joined the North Chicago Fire Department where he enjoyed a 33 year long career and developed many lasting relationships. Roger was founder and owner of Belski Electric, a business he began in 1987. Roger could often be found tooling about town in one of his signature vehicles. Roger is preceded in death by his father, Louis Belski and his companion in life, Marlene Williams who brought great levity and laughter to his life. Roger is survived by his mother, Jean (Szostak) Belski, brothers Tom and Jeff Belski, daughters, Brenda (Jamie) Fackler, Jill (Mark) Kexel and Katie (Chris) Roberts, nine grandchildren and former spouse, Linda (Beyer) Belski. A wake will be held Monday, June 8, 2015 from 4-8pm at the Salata Gurnee Funeral Home, 4190 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, IL. A mass will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 10am at Queen of Peace Church, 910 14th Street, North Chicago, IL. Interment to follow to Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to www.Lakecountyhonorflight.org. "I knew a kid who stuck a knife in the toaster on a few occasions. He learned it hurt. He grew up to be a great electrician." -Travis J. Dahnke, Write like no one is reading. For information, 847-244-1155.

Roger was the City Electrician and Electrical Inspector for a number of towns in the area. I worked with Roger at the Fire Department, later tested under him for my license, and often turned to him for advice and suggestions, both as an AHJ and an experienced electrician.

He was a good man and will be missed. RIP my friend.
