Here is a question for the inspectors out there.

One of my pet peeves is the improper use of wire connectors. How many times have you seen a red wire nut with 6 #12s jammed into it? Or a greenie with 8 #14s in it? I have seen it too many times.

An Ideal red non-winged Wire Nut is only good for 4 #12, but many electricians don't seem to know this, or don't care.

Since equipment must be installed according to its listing/instructions, using wire connectors improperly is a code violation.

So, how many inspectors out there enforce this? Or am I just being too nit-picky?

Peter

With my AHJ hat on, myself and the other AHJ that I work with would "red sticker" a rough if we saw what you indicated. With my EC hat on, my men would not do a splice as you indicated.
