Today I have on my desk, a Leviton AFCI device.

AFTR1-W, 15 amp, 120 volt/20 amp, 120 volt feed thru.

Finally available at a local supply house.

Are you going to show it to your fellow inspectors, take it home and then disassemble it to see what's inside?

I saw one yesterday at my 15hr review on the 2014 NEC. They can only be used in a box with 4-wires...not including grounds. Also if there is a 3-wire entering the box...it can't be installed...according to the instructions...

Now on January 1st 2014... according to 406.4(D)(4) of the 2011 NEC...replacements need AFCI protection or not?

What's your interpretation???

Specs claim series and parallel arc protection but they don't call it a "combination type"

Curious why that is?

The code never refers to a receptacle outlet type AFCI as combination type either?

Electure:

No, I have no plans to disassemble it, and no plans to install it in my house. And where did you get that pic?

The other inspectors are looking at it.

I have been to both Leviton and P&S Legrand websites many, many times looking at this illusive device that is finally arrived.

I did not thoroughly read the instructions; seems like there are at least three languages in the box. Stickers to put on downstream receptacles included.

Pics forthcoming

I've got an almost insatiable habit of taking things apart
If you'll field testing at home, all the better smile

The pic came from a Google Image search for "Mad Scientist"
It seemed to fit the scenario laugh
