There are still parts of a dwelling that do not require AFCI protection, the kitchen and garage for instance, and the bathroom plugs, outdoor plugs, and unfinished areas, laundry plugs, utility room etc.


And I hear some of that is going to change with the 2014 NEC. More snake oil being required.

The only breakers that would be UL classified for HOM panels would be Eaton/Cutler-Hammer BR & that would not help the OP.

I just bought a house in Idaho where, thankfully, the AFCI requirement was exempted by the state. So there are a few states and jurisdictions with common sense it seems.

That said, if I were to do anything here in So Cal, I would install the AFCI's for inspection then replace them with standard breakers after the inspection is signed off. wink
