Section 690.11 2011 NEC states that a PV system needs Arc-Fault circuit protection for the DC circuits. Has anyone seen a Listed or Labeled AFCI for DC circuits?

The DC AFCI is within the inverter. There is one brand/model that I was made aware of recently.

IMHO, if there is nothing readily available, then this cannot be enforced.

All of the solar that I have reviewed, and what is in the 'pile' is all under '08. I expect a lot more solar applications coming into the office before 11/07/12!

edit: Also, a lot more installs going to micro inverters would solve this issue.

John,

I too would prefer the micro inverters. I just wish more people would choose them. Also if the installer doesn't have "AS PER '08 NEC", then wouldn't the enforcing code become the 2011?

Yes, the applicant must note the '2008 NEC' on the plans and permit app; otherwise it is 2011 since May 7, 2012.

I should have stated that above. All of the solar installs that are in house here have been '2008 on plans and Tech card'.

There are 11 more solar comm jobs arriving today or Tuesday.

Beat the deadline!!
