I love insurance companies! They weren't sure about liability insurance for an electrical company when I first started which should have been my first clue. My insurance company is questioning the jobs I do which right now is mostly service work. What class codes are other electricians using for their insurance. My insurance company is telling me I can only do electrical work within buildings 92478. I don't know about anyone else but I do work outside:) So every job I need a certificate for they ask what I am doing for them.
I have never filed a claim before either so I am not sure why they would even question. Does anyone else get questioned?
And I am not allowed to touch a foot on any airport property. I had to give up a job to a company from two hours away cause I was not allowed to work on our very rural airport that gets maybe a flight a week!

Tick, the best thing you can do right now is go to most any trade association for contractors ... be it ABC, AGC, "Builders Assoc of East Undershirt, Pa," whatever, and ask them who they reccomend for insurance. Indeed, they may have reduced rates available for association members.

The main thing is that not every insurance agency is familiar with construction, or contracting, and the agent does not understand your needs.

I've not been asked. i call and have a certificate faxed to whom ever and done.

The customers always ask. most have a minimum level of coverage.Plus vehicle coverage if on their property.
I carry $2 mil/4 mil ag. that covers every job I've done.
'Completed work' coverage is the most missed option I see with guys around here. but thats what you pay for.

Now I know why their rates are less than mine.
