I think Scott nailed it. It does look like a cut-off piece of flex...it goes with what others have said about this being "used" equipment. Definitely a Homebrew setup. I guess recycling is good, but certainly not in the electrical business.

I like Sparky's "terrorist gasoline-bulb...!!"

As others usually speculate, I wonder what the rest of this place looks like...?

I think I could devise at least a dozen safe and code-compliant ways of reusing old electric equipment, but this is certainly not one of them wink
