I've been running a 3 phase 6hp 400v alternator for about 4 years. There was a pic posted in 2005 [page 68 of this Forum, but it seems to have vanished frown ].
The alternator is driven by duplexed 3hp single phase motors with vee belts, [the purpose is to obtain 3 phase power from a single phase supply]. I use it to run woodworking machines. The planer/jointer is underpowered. It had a 7.5hp motor which I changed out to a 5hp unit due to excessive amps starting problems ], and taking too large a cut will slowly stall the motor. The large rotating inertia does not allow a sudden stop. It depends on how fast I can get to the depth wheel if it does stall, or if I manage to get the excessive feed off fast enough on my old legs! Wide boards or wild grain are the offenders. The alternator set-up never seems to stall and has never tripped out electrically or thermally.

Alan,

Can you give a link to the thread where the picture is supposed to be?

Bill,

This is as close as I can get, I can't find the original posts #120641 and #120642 from 27 April 2005 in the list of my posts.

I found replies....

One pic of a Starret rpm counter remains, if you scroll up the page to the original post which is there.

Alan,

Your pictures are back in that thread.

We haven't lost any pictures that were on the ECN website. The change we made from a Windows-based to a Linux-based server last year is part of the reason for the 'missing pictures'.

On the old server links weren't case-sensative, so if someone wasn't careful to use the exact filename it might not matter. (so, either 'CIMG0045.JPG' or 'Cimg0045.jpg' would work). On this server the links heve to be exactly right, so some pictures weren't showing up. To fix them I just had to look up the actual filenames and change the links in the thread to match.

If you come across any more missing pics, please let me know.

Bill

P.S. here's your picture:
