This video from a Brazilian utility has some good shots of residential inside wiring. The video is promoting the company's rewiring and energy-efficiency progam.

The refrigerators do not have handles. Is that common in Brazil?

Does the video show the original wiring they're replacing or their new work?

There are some pictures of nasty wiring. I assume that's the original.

I sure hope so... but I wanted to ask politely, didn't want to offend anyone wink

The single conduit wires stapled to the wall definitely wouldn't fly here...

Yes (as best I can tell) the single wires with the plastic staples are the new work; everything else is what they replaced.

I've never been to Brazil and don't have any first-hand information, but I know an engineer in Sao Paulo; I'll ask him what codes they follow.

Good question! I don't know the answer, but just from browsing through this site (http://www.geladeiras.net/), it seems to depend on the brand. Brastemp (which I think is Brazilian), Consul (also Brazilian?) and GE don't have handles, but other international brands (Samsung, Bosch, LG, etc.) do.

Wow, they're pretty rough installations. I can appreciate they're trying to keep them low budget, but even so, they seem a bit too relaxed about standards!
