Are you guys getting it, or are you providing your own?

A loaded question I suppose, employers are supposed to provide this gear, what happens if the gear is not there from your employer, do you walk out, do you demand it be provided?

I'm talking the likes of safety glasses, ear protection and dust masks (where other trades are cutting concrete and the like)

Everyone has the right to a safe working environment, no-one should have to go home at night coughing dust and what have you out of their lungs or with their ears ringing from noise on a job site.

Anyone have some experience with this?

I have my own gear. much better than provided.
Special environments the customer provides it.

However: Company uniforms, I was Bucked (challenged) on cotton pants and shirts.By the employer. They cost more.

Then i went to a power distribution plant.
My Polyester shirt would not fly (short sleeved to boot).
No Access, Called the shop, Owner said "Put on a sweat shirt, you wear them any way" (not company issued).

Bad Answer. I elected to be turned away. I got paid, Travel and the rest.
Don't put me in that spot. It cost my employer more that day than it cost me.
I also don't feel bad about it. After that answer, No Negotiations with the customer.
being a power plant.None accepted.

We are lucky to still have them as a client.

My safety is my responsibility. However, If you want (require) me to wear your uniform (not the issue)Provide me with proper attire.

Quoted job: Companies loss.

My company is more than happy to get us what we need to be safe. Dust masks, ear plugs you name it. That is one of the main reasons i went to work for them in the 1st place.
