This happened in the park right by my house. At first, lightning was blamed, but it appears that may not be the cause.

Indeed a tragedy...

Parks seem to, unfortunately, be a magnet for lack of electrical maintenance.. I remember a few years ago reading about a pitcher that got "lit up" on the mound from a dodgy underground setup for a pitching machine.

In this day and age I must ask.... Did some $@!#$^ steal a ground from the light pole??? or was the water he was standing in become electrified??
