This time of year means so much to so many people in so many different ways, as Redsy so eloquently put it in his earlier post. One thing it means to me is helping people out. This really should go on 66wv's post, but I did not want to make that one too long. It really is a very selfish thing to help somone out. Let me 'splain.

I got involved in giving to toys for tots years ago. Started with a stupid $3 Donald Duck doll. After I put the doll in the bin I felt pretty good. About three hours later I realized how good I still felt. Knowing that I helped some anymous kid get what may be his only tow for christmas really made me feel good. Years later I spent $50 on toys. My new wife said to me "wow you are generous" I blew it off, we could afford it. Then I had her put the toys in the box. There is something about putting the toys in the box that is the wonderful part. That is what gives you the warm fuzzy feeling. When we got to the car she said "you know that felt really good" Hours later she said to me "you know I still feel good" That is why I say that helping somone out is a selfish thing. It makes you feel good. Just so you know we both started doing toys for tots at our new companies.

So do what you can $5 or $10 dollars may not meant that much to you, but the world to someone else. Feel good about yourself.

BTW. It is pretty funny to call and have someone bark out of the phone Master Gunery Sargeant %%%%% and then talk to him about toys.

I will now step down off my soap box and start to feel very corny.

Scott:
I think you have the "spirit"
There are so many GOOD organizations that help those in need, this time of the year, and EVERYDAY.
Toys for Tots, Soup Kitchens, Salvation Army, Lions Club, AMVETS, etc., etc., etc.
We all know who, what & where they are.

Those of us who "have" share a little with those who "havenot".

The good feelings are the "givers" bonus.

Happy Holidays to all
John

Your local church or Habitat project can always use some help in the electrical area.

This is where you can do electrical work for free and not feel bad about it!

Scott, John, CT,

Some great sentiments expressed here.
Warm and Fuzzy is where it's at.

I guess we may not be the best lookin' bunch, (I've seen the pictures!) but it appears as though differences in opinion aside, we have a great group here!

Guys,

Not for nothing and I ain't one for preaching. However what happens after the "season"? Do we forget those happy feelings? Does anyone help out in the neighborhood? I am not bragging at all, but does anyone do work like voulenteer for work at a hospital? Coaches? any local boards like zoning, planning, school, local sports, scouts? Long story short, help out the rest of the year. You'll feel good about yourself. [Linked Image]

Harold, my boys don't play sports yet but if they do I will not coach. Parents are CRAZY! It might be safer being a waterboy or something.

It's never wrong to do right, and "it's better to give than to receive."

Harold's right...
at least in my corner of the universe , small towns operate via many volunteers, thus the true meaning of 'community'

or at least it's more apparent in smaller towns as the one i live in.

this is then a 25/7/365 deal, which pales 12/25 by comparission.

me?, i'm 'that Ambulance driver dude', which given the insights of human nature is something i owe more to than it owes me.

those that serve with me say i'm a soft touch, i really hate that ! what if my GC's find out! ....so i tell people it's a condition of my parole.
