Unit is only 5 years old and has made the lights flicker from the first start up. 15 kva pole pig and 2/0 alum underground wire on utility side of meter, our local emc likes to put em in cheap, secondary run is about 135 feet from transformer to meter

Steve: Most condensors I have seen do not have one of these built in, but I will say as well as reducing the lighting "flicker" when my parents compressor starts, the kick-start will actually start the compressor with full head pressure, such as right after a momentary power interruption.
I really am surprised all referigeration compressors don't have one of these right from the factory!

Kick Starts web site claims that all units used to have them, but that the manufacturers discontinued the use to save costs. Another case of cheap not always being good.
