can someone explain why 210.12 b states that these things should be fitted for bedrooms? is it a fire thing?

I think you've just opened a very large can of worms again. [Linked Image]

If I recall corrctly from the discussions some months ago, I believe the argument was that the arc-protection was required in bedrooms because appliances could be used in the room while somebody was sleeping (e.g. electric overblanket).

You'll find a lot of people here who don't go along with that, however.

Parallel-arc vs. series-arc debate resumes....

Andy,
There has been a *lot* of discussion on AFCIs over the last year or so.

If you do a search on AFI, AFCI, and arc fault you'll see plenty of threads on the topic.

By the way, I'm not sure how long ago you left Blighty, but there's still no sign of the AFCI in this part of the world yet.
