There is no code requirement that a whole house fan be on a dedicated circuit.

Does anyone know how CA title 24 section 6 2005 effects the installation of WHFs? I can't find any reference to them in the document. They seem pretty serious about any other source of potential fenestration though. My wholesaler can't get open designs like the installer friendly Nutone WHV-20 anymore but is soon going to stock the muti-fan units with the motorized insulated flappers. The home stores were still selling the open 24", 30" and 36" models last I looked and I was wondering if it would be a violation to install one of these in CA. Vince

I browsed quickly through the Residential Compliance Manual, and these are covered in Chapter 4 (HVAC Compliance Measures). In the Non-Residential Compliance Manual, they would be covered in the HVAC chapters and headings regarding Ventillation Fans. FYI, here are links to the Complaince Manuals - which are .PDF files (Adobe Acrobat): ---Non-Residential--- 2005 Non Residential Compliance Manual PDFFound at: 2005 Non-Residential Manual Page--Residential-- 2005 Residential Compliance Manual PDFFound at: 2005 Residential Complaince Manual PageScott

Scott35- I've been over the resi document back and forth. That's the one that will apply so that's where I'm looking. I've used the search tool looking for key words like "whole" "house" "fan" and "ventilation". I even visited their video site and watched (most of) the video on mechanical ventilation. This was just a glorified bath fan for getting some fresh air into homes that are sealed up so tight that they they won't get enough without one. I may just be missing it but nothing I saw refers to what I know as a "whole house fan". A big, noisy 3200 cfm hole in the attic insulation. A page number would be greatly appreciated.
