Hmmm... so far as i can see, i believe, this are the serach strings of the all known search engines aka yahoo, google etc.

Will say, if you type a search like "ground fault exception" , the engines search the net and if something in this board match the search, it will display as result.

hope you understand, sorry for my bad english

regards

Herrmann

Mike,

My understanding is they are some of the Computers that surf around the Web collecting and catalogging content for the search engines. This BB software must recognize them somehow (possibly by IP address ?)

Search Spider is probably this forum's term for what is commonly known as a search robot or bot. They are cataloging programs that search the internet for everything. Their purpose is to rapidly display a result of sites with discriptions when you enter a search string.

Long before there were "search engines" or "bots", back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and the internet was just starting to be called the world-wide web, search engines were called "web-crawlers," which developed into "spiders." I'm surprised that the term is still in use, but then we still say, "boot up" also. cool

Anybody else out there remember logging on to Compuserve in the days of text-only (no GUIs)? I remember telling my wife, this is never going to catch on unless they get better graphics. I failed to anticipate the boost from on-line chat rooms.
