Florida has a 8 hour open book exam administered by the state electrical contractors board that includes 150 questions on the NEC,OSHA,Life Safety,ADA,alarms and low voltage,accounting practices,workers comp,contracts,state lien laws and business law,federal guidelines for small business.
In order to sit for the exam the candidate must show certified documented proof that he or she has at least 7 years of continuous experience(equivalent to a journeymans license),or be a PE with 3 years experience. If you pass the test(takes a score of 75)you are then a state certified electrical contractor better known as a Master Electrician.
You can get a Master license at the local or county level by taking the Bloc Exam with a journeymans license and then be registered with the state.This license does limit the holder to power only,not low voltage or alarms.
